About Us
Students vs. Cancer is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization helping any student, teacher, or school employee within the New River Valley who is diagnosed with cancer. We try to find unique ways to make the person’s fight a little easier on him/her and the family, and want our organization to be associated with what is good in this world.
Our Services
Here is a list of some of the things we have done for the approximately 30 people we have helped:
● Take the families we are helping back to school shopping, where we buy all school supplies and new clothes.
● Provide multiple restaurant gift certificates to make dinner time easier on many of the families.
● Provide gas cards so travel for treatments is not a burden.
● Provide several of our families a maid to help lessen the stress and worry of cleaning.
● Provide payment for online classes so students can continue their learning while they are out of school for the year because of their chemotherapy treatments.
● Provide bedroom makeovers including new bed and mattress so students can have their dream bedroom while having to go through treatments.
● Provide magazine subscriptions to the cancer centers in Pulaski, Blacksburg, and Roanoke.
● Provide Christmas gifts to local students who have a parent battling cancer.
● Provide many electronic wish lists to our students including Macbooks, iPads, AirPods, cell phones, Bose speakers, Bose headphones - anything they need to make life easier while they go through chemotherapy.
● Provide a paid subscription to movie channels for the families and student to use.
● Provide movie tickets to the families to use at the theater
● Pay hotel bills for patients and families when they have to receive treatment out of town.
● Provide transportation for chemotherapy treatments when parent could not get student to hospital because of working conflicts.
